Slowing down your momentum for the weekend
Friday has finally arrived. For many of us, it’s a day we’ve been waiting for all week—yet sometimes the stress of the last five days has a momentum of its own. Even when you log off, your heart might still be beating at a "workday" pace, and your mind is still bracing for the next notification.
When I feel that lingering tension in my chest, I reach for Lavender.
Most people associate lavender with high-end hotels or soaps, but as a tea, it’s a very functional tool for your nervous system. It contains a compound called linalool, which works through both taste and smell. As you sip it, the aroma travels directly to your brain's emotional center, helping to physically lower your heart rate and blood pressure. It’s like a gentle hand on your shoulder, reminding your body that it is finally safe to decelerate.
The taste is floral and distinct, so you only need a small amount. I’ve found that the real benefit comes from breathing in the steam before the first sip. It forces a moment of deep breathing that we often forget to do during a busy week.
I hope this weekend gives you the space to truly disconnect—to step away from the algorithms and just be present in your own reality.
Do you have a specific ritual that helps you leave the workweek behind? Reply and let me know. I’ll be here, as always, reading every message.
Keep pausing.
A quick note for your safety: Because lavender is so effective at relaxing the system, it can lower your blood pressure. If you already struggle with low blood pressure, drink it with caution. It’s also best for pregnant or breastfeeding women to check with a doctor first.
